Caring for our soil
Our soil - more than just dirt!
It's easier to grow plants in our good soil because it holds moisture and provides the nutrients plants need.
AND healthy soil also results in produce that has more nutrients than it would in depleted soil. Our produce is much healthier for us than much of the produce sold, which is grown by pouring a few chemical fertilizers on the fields rather than creating nuitrient-rich soil.
Just leaves become rich humus
We're fortunate that we found a house located on a former farm, so historically the soil was probably pretty good, but we've further protected and enriched our soil by:
- Preserving the structure of the soil
- Making and using compost
- Planting cover crops
- Adding soil amendments
